Nottingham is well served by major rail services, bus and coach systems, motorways, and its own international airport. It is also close to the M1 motorway, providing direct links to major UK cities.

Air Travel


Nottingham has its own international airport, the Nottingham East Midlands Airport, which accommodates flights from major European destinations such as Paris, Berlin, and Amsterdam. Some domestic flights, particularly those from Edinburgh and Belfast, also land at the airport.

The Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield is a smaller international airport, which also serves European flights. Flights from Asia, North and South America, and the Indian subcontinent land at the Birmingham International Airport, about an hour's drive away.

Car Hire and Road Travel


Much of Nottingham is separated into distinct areas by an inner road, which encircles a number of notable attractions. The busy roads throughout the centre allow visitors to drive around the city with relative ease, although peak hours can experience some traffic congestion.

Car Parking


Nottingham has excellent parking services, thanks to its Park and Ride public transportation programme. There are seven Park and Ride sites in Nottingham, offering about 4,000 spaces. Most of the parking services are short-term, although long-term off-street parking is offered by many hotels and private car parks.

Travel by Trains and Rail


Nottingham is a takeoff point of the Robin Hood Line, which runs from the city to Worksop, Nottinghamshire. The line makes about 15 stops, including those in Kirby-in-Ashfield and Sutton-in-Ashfield. The Nottingham Express Transit, opened only in 2004, runs from nearby Hucknall to the city's main railway station.

Travel by Buses and Coach


Nottingham's bus services have long been recognized for quality and efficiency. The two main operators are the Nottingham City Transport (NCT) and Trent Barton, both connecting Nottingham to major destinations in the UK.
